A Lifelong Fascination with Animals

Animals have held a deep fascination for me throughout my life. Their movement, muscles, skeletons, expressions, behaviors, textures, and anatomy have always captivated and inspired me.

Capturing the Essence in Sculpture

I dedicate my time to studying, observing, and sketching living creatures. My aim is to capture the essence, the nerve, the metaphorical and monumental aspects of their existence. I seek out lines, movement, form, and expression.

While my sculptures are grounded in anatomical knowledge, their primary function is as sculptures themselves. The impression they evoke in the viewer is of greater importance than absolute anatomical accuracy. I believe that anyone can develop anatomical proficiency with practice. My aspiration lies beyond that, in the realm where unique expressions emerge.

Knowledge and Depth: The Keys to Artistic Freedom

The more I learn about the animal I'm working with, the greater the freedom I gain. For me, knowledge and immersion are essential.

Art as a Medium for Expression

Through my art, I strive to convey emotions and states of being, as well as the magnificence of our fauna – its beauty, drama, brutality, and vulnerability.

Åse lives in Norway on a small farm with her daughter, horses and dogs.
